With all the home Quarantine going on I have a lot of patients asking about fertility and getting pregnant.

I recommend for all of my patients to start by taking a prenatal vitamin… and cycle tracking. One of the most common questions that I am asked is which prenatal vitamin is “the BEST”.  The best prenatal vitamin is the one that you will actually take that doesn’t cause any untoward side effects. (Is fish taste/reflux) There are many apps to track your cycle and also your fertile days. There have been some studies showing these apps are not perfectly accurate so this information is good to bring to your doctor’s appointment to discuss your cycle length etc. There are two over-the-counter supplements that I recommend. The first is called Pregnitude. It contains a protein called myo-inositol that helps improve the egg quality.  The other thing I ask patients to get is a lubricant called Pre-seed. KY jelly or saliva can disrupt up to 60 to 70% of mobile sperm. Pre-seed helps the boys swim.

Try these tricks for 3 to 6 months. If still not pregnant then make an appointment to see your OB/GYN. We can do some simple testing and possibly an ultrasound. There are medications (Clomid and/or Femara) that will help with ovulation induction. There is a slight chance of twins and ovarian cysts so you must be monitored while taking these medications
